Approximately 37 km from downtown Monterrey, you will find the Cumbres National Park, where you will find the Caves of Garcia.
Inside, time seemed to stand still. Impressive rock formations adorned every nook and cranny, each telling its own geological story of millions of years. Strategically placed artificial lighting enhanced the textures and colors of the stalactites and stalagmites, creating a mystical, almost otherworldly atmosphere.
In one of the larger rooms of the caves, I came across something unexpected: a small church. Intrigued, I later learned that this chapel was built as a place of devotion for the workers who in the 19th century explored and developed the caves.
The church was erected in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe, protector of the miners and adventurers of the region, offering a space for prayer and spiritual recollection in the midst of the majestic nature.
The Garcia Caves are not only a testimony of the Earth's natural history, but also a space where faith and devotion have found an unexpected and sacred place. A place where a sense of wonder and spirituality is experienced when exploring the depths of the earth.
